List of Democratic Candidates in the 1st District Could Get Longer

Even though Randy Bryce and Cathy Myers have been campaigning for months for the Democratic nomination in the 1st Congressional District, Peter Barca says he’s considering a run of his own, now that Paul Ryan is out of the race.

"Many people from throughout the 1st congressional district who supported me in the past who feel I may be in the best position to win the seat asked me to at least look at it," said Barca, adding that he'll make a decision soon.

Barca says the chances of a Democrat winning the district in November just got better with Ryan out of the race, although he believes it's still an uphill battle.

The Kenosha Democrat and former state Assembly Minority Leader was the last Democrat to represent the district. Barca went to Washington in the early 90's after winning a special election, only to lose the regular election a year-and-a-half later.

Both the Bryce and Myers campaigns reacted to the possible Barca candidacy with statements.  A Myers spokesman said they’d welcome the move while the Bryce campaign focused on its organizational abilities and its two-point-three million dollar bankroll.
