(WGTD)---A new book club dedicated to discussing racial issues will meet for the first time this Saturday, with a discussion of the book titled “White Fragility.”
Speaking on a recent edition of Community Matters, book club founder Adelene Greene said she felt driven to do something positive to enhance understanding of the systemic issues surrounding racism. "I thnk through these conversations and through these readings, people will gain a better insight into the black experience here in the United States, gain a different perspective and hopefully get some understanding about why it is that some of us feel the way we feel," she said.
Greene’s “Rainbow Voices Book Club” is Facebook-based, with interested participants first needing permission to enter the group.
Greene is a retired director of Workforce Development for Kenosha County and a long-time member of the Coalition on Dismantling Racism. As of a couple of weeks ago, the club had 76 members--- 27 African-American; 3 Latino; and 46 white.
