New Upscale Apartments Planned For The Southport Plaza Area

The construction boom in multi-family housing in the Kenosha area is continuing, with developers now citing the anticipated increase in demand that’s being posed by the planned Foxconn development.

The latest announcement comes from a developer who wants to build 224 new upscale apartments adjacent to the Southport Plaza shopping center. The site is just south of the 168-condo development called the Falls at Pike Creek.

A pair of four-story buildings would house the new apartments. One building would include a roof-top garden and a patio.

The developer, Chicago-based Speedwagon Properties, says in a filing with the city’s Development Department that the new apartments represent a trend toward re-urbanization: Restaurants, shopping, a grocery store and even a movie theater are within walking distance. The new apartments are expected to be ready for occupancy less than two years from now.

The city’s Plan Commission will review the project on Thursday.

In it's filing, Speedwagon says new apartments in the Kenosha area are being filled as fast as they go up.
