Non-Fatal Officer-Involved Shooting in Racine

Updated 3-26-18

A few more details have emerged about an incident over the weekend in which Racine police shot and wounded a man that they said had been holding a gun.

32 year-old Jeremiah Golden was treated at the hospital for a non-life threatening injury then jailed.

According to the initial police department news release, police received a call from Tropical Paradise at 1600 Douglas on a report of a fight that involved a gun. As officers arrived, multiple shots could be heard. Officers came across a subject holding a gun. He refused commands to drop it, and subsequently was shot.

The way Golden tells it, he grabbed his gun from his car because he was being threatened by a crowd. He said he fired several times into the air.

Golden was charged yesterday with a slew of felonies, including drug dealing and endangering safety.
