Out-of-Control Semi Pushes Barricades Into Oncoming Traffic on I-94

A sudden burst of snow and freezing rain coated area roads with ice early Saturday morning and prompted a four-hour-long closure of I-94 in Racine County, according to a news release from the Racine County Sheriff's Dept.

While a series of crashes occurred beginning at 3:30 a.m., the most problematic accident was caused by an out-of-control semi plowing through a construction median wall and pushing the concrete into the oppositse lanes of traffic. Several vehicles then skidded on the icy roadway and slammed into the out-of-place wall.  No major injuries were reported.

Four property damage accidents, including one involving a plow, were reported during the period on and immediately off the interstate.

All lanes were open again by 7:15.

In addition to these calls, the sheriff's dept. responded to a car versus tree accident and two reports of vehicles in ditches.
