Phone Store in Mt. Pleasant Robbed Amid Growing Number of Such Thefts

Mt. Pleasant---Cell phone stores are becoming popular targets for thieves.

The latest theft occurred early Thursday evening at an AT&T store located in a small strip mall in front of the Walmart Supercenter on Durand Ave.

According to a news release from the Mt. Pleasant Police Dept., two thieves walked in. One display a hand gun. They left with over $30,000 worth of cell phones. No one got hurt.

At last report, no one's been arrested.

In Mt. Prospect, Il Thursday, April 13th, a Verizon store was robbed by three people who tied up two employees and displayed a gun. Police said the thieves stole "multiple" phones from a stock room. 

Last month, four men accused of robbing three cell phone stores in Indiana and Ohio were arrested.  

The store that was robbed in Mt. Pleasant Thursday evening was closed Friday morning.
