Protesters Seek KSB Reconsideration of Virtual Learning Plan

Aug. 18, 2020 5:15p

(WGTD)---The Kenosha School Board meets tonight to ostensibly tie up some loose ends following its decision two weeks ago to have teachers and students begin the school year online because of the virus.

The agenda includes a review of the plan, decisions on fall sports, personnel that are either 'repurposed' or furloughed due to virtual learning and a discussion on the district's transportation contract.

During the public comments part of the meeting, board members are sure to be asked to reconsider their decision to begin virtually. The original plan had parents and students being given a choice of either in-person or online learning.

Close to 200 parents and students protested the virtual-only plan in a demonstration that was held before the board meeting at the Educational Support Center. Demonstrators held signs and stood in the parkway along 52nd St., seeking support via honking horns from passing traffic.

The public may watch the meeting here.  It begins at 5:30.

Last night Racine School Board members discussed that district's return plan which also excludes an in-person option. On sports, the board decided to push fall sports to spring.
