It can happen in any neighborhood: A 55 year-old resident of Kenosha's exclusive Allendale neighborhood has been arrested and is facing a seven-count criminal complaint that includes running a drug house on 3rd Ave. in the 7100 blk. Timothy Barden is being held on a $25,000 bond. According to the criminal complaint, authorities received tips that Barden had harvested marijuana from plants that had been growing in his backyard. Deputies went through his garbage that had been left at the curb and came away with enough evidence to warrant a search of his house, where marijuana, pot plants and guns were purportedly recovered. Barden was charged as a repeat offender. Barden denied that he'd been selling drugs.

The Racine Public Library is taking another step toward filling social service needs that a library patron might have. Ashley Cedeno became the library’s full-time social worker four years ago. Last year alone, Cedeno had more than 1,000 interactions with people needing help. The help included such things as making referrals or providing a translation service or a bus pass. In some cases, Cedeno simply served as a sounding board. Beginning Tuesday, the library will hold standing social services hours on Tuesday and Thursday from 11 to five. Patrons will be able to make an appointment in advance or simply drop in during those hours.
