Celebrating a Life of Music and Teaching at Carthage College

Oct. 8, 2026 5:30p

(WGTD)---Greg Berg will be singing his way into partial retirement with a free concert Saturday evening at Carthage College.

"Greg Berg & Friends" will perform at Siebert Chapel as part of Carthage's homecoming weekend. A 6 p.m. reception will precede the 7:30 p.m. concert. It's all free and open to the public as the college officially marks the beginning of Greg's phased-in retirement after spending 35 years at the school teaching voice lessons and conducting various ensembles.

While we wish him many happy years in retirement, we're particularly happy here at WGTD to note that he won't be stepping away as host of WGTD's Morning Show--at least not yet!.

As Carthage's website notes, the Saturday evening concert will bring together Carthage alumni, faculty colleagues, and longtime musical collaborators whose lives and artistry have been shaped by Greg's teaching, mentorship, and musicianship. "An evening of music, storytelling, and community, Greg Berg and Friends honors decades of dedication to students, ensembles, and Carthage’s vibrant musical life." More than 80 performers are expected to participate.

Greg was already working in a full-time capacity at WGTD in 1991 when he got a call from the Carthage College music department, offering what was initially billed as part-time, fill-in work.

That position grew into permanent, full-time employment while his work at WGTD switched from full to part-time.

Greg will also continue to serve as the minister of music at Holy Communion Church in Racine and as music director for the Racine Theatre Guild.
