Recommendations Released in Racine County Transit Study

(WGTD)---A task force established five months ago by Racine County Executive Jonathan Delagrave to study ways of improving transit in Racine County in light of the pending Foxconn development has released its final report.

The study was limited in scope in that it focused on improving transit within eastern Racine County. Short-term recommendations include expanding bus service, better coordination of traffic signals and possible speed limit adjustments.

The report mentions some broader issues, such as improving regional bus service, autonomous vehicles and getting Foxconn directly involved in financial support of expanded services.

A longer-term goal was the construction of a I-94 spur along Spring Street to improve the flow of traffic between the interstate and downtown Racine.

The report does not discuss the creation of a regional transit authority, something that proponents say is needed to adequately coordinate regional transportation.
