Renters' Forum to be Held Monday Night in Racine as Policy Changes Mulled

(WGTD)--Racine Mayor Cory Mason is thinking about proposing some policy changes that would be designed to give residents greater access to safe, affordable quality housing. But first, he wants to hear from tenants.

A forum will be held Monday evening at the Racine Public Library beginning at 5:30. "We want it to be a good conversation," Mason said. "It won't be very formal."

To entice participation, food and raffle prizes will be offered.

Earlier this year, Racine beefed up its code enforcement by adding an inspector.

Mason believes more should be done. For instance, code enforcement is done on a complaint-basis and does not entail a systematic approach.

"Our goal as a city is to make sure that as many residents as possible have access to safe and affordable quality housing," Mason said. "We know that's not always the case."
