Robin Vos Expected to Have a Republican Challenger; Jensen Trial Date Set; Murder Victim Identified

From WGTD News:

Robin Vos, under fire from some member of his own party, is expected to have a primary election opponent this August. 39-year-old Adam Steen of Burlington has announced his candidacy as a Republican in the 63rd Assembly District. That’s the seat currently held by Vos, who also serves as Assembly Speaker. Vos has received criticism from some Republicans for not being more forceful on concerns and issues relating to the 2020 election. On his website, Steen identifies election integrity as a top issue, along with government corruption and COVID-19 policies. In 2018, Steen was one of a half-dozen Republicans who ran for congress after Paul Ryan decided not to seek re-election. Bryan Steil won the race, and went on to win the general election.

It looks as if Mark Jensen will be getting the new trial he wanted, but it’s a ways off. Jensen is the Pleasant Prairie man convicted in 2008 of poisoning his wife with anti-freeze. The conviction was based in part on a so-called ‘letter from the grave’---a note Julie Jensen wrote to a neighbor saying that if anything happened to her investigators should take a close look at her husband. That letter has been the subject of numerous appeals. The U.S Supreme Court last week—without commenting—let stand a state Supreme Court ruling that disallowed use of the letter as evidence. Now the nearly 15-year-old case is back in Kenosha Court, this time before Judge Anthony Milisauskas. Milisauskus and the attorneys in the case established a calendar Monday. What’s anticipated to be a two-day long hearing to argue motions was scheduled for November. The trial itself is now scheduled to begin January 9th, 2023. It’s expected to last five weeks. As for the letter, District Attorney Mike Graveley, in comments made last week to the Kenosha News, is still holding out hope that, one way or another, it’ll wind up as evidence submitted to a new jury. Jensen, now 62, is being held in the Kenosha County Jail pending the new trial.
