Self-Defense Claimed in Racine Shooting

Racine---A man who shot another in the chest over the weekend is claiming self defense.

34 year-old William Lockhart is expected to be formally charged  on Wednesday with attempted 2nd degree intentional homicide. The victim, 47 year-old Darnell Baker, is recovering.

The criminal complaint describes a long history of bad blood between the two, starting when the defendant's cousin was mortally injured in a fall off a porch while in the company of the victim. Lockhart, according to the complaint, blames Baker and his friends for his cousin's death.

The Sunday shooting occurred when Baker allegedly confronted Lockhart while he was walking his dog. Lockhart says he fired because he felt threatened.

Lockhart has a criminal record which includes a 2003 conviction on a charge of attempted homicide, the same offense he's accused of in the latest case.
