Shopko Going Out of Business; Closing All Stores by June

"ShopKo" Exterior in Kenosha

Shopko is no more. The retailer once known as a Wisconsin area staple will cease to exist this June. The Kenosha and Racine area locations had already begun liquidating earlier this year after Shopko announced it was closing both stores - among dozens of others- and entering bankruptcy. The ShopKo pharmacies at both locations were moved to Pick N Save shortly there after.

The company reported assets less than $1 billion and liabilities and debts between $1 billion and $10 billion when it filed for chapter 11 bankruptcy in February. The company was looking for a buyer, but was unable to secure one.

ShopKo was founded in 1962 in Green Bay and continued expanding through the middle of the 2010’s.
