What do you get when you put a coin behind a cell phone power brick and plug it into an outlet? The latest social media craze the #OutletChallenge. The challenge has gotten so out of hand WE Energies released a statement warning customers not to participate. The challenge can lead to electrical and smoke damage, fire, and serious injuries. Two high school students in Boston now face criminal charges after they "smoked out" several outlets in an area high school. So far, no reports have come from Kenosha Unified or Racine Unifed School Districts about students attempting the challenge at any of their buildings.The outlet challenge has risen in popularity on the apps TikTok and Instagram garnering millions of views. WE Energies is encouraging parents to talk to their children.
"Challenge Culture" is nothing new among young americans. Past challenges included jumping out of moving vehicles and eating TIDE laundry detergent pods.
