Solar System Group Buy Being Organized in Kenosha and Racine Counties

A non-profit that’s based in the City of Racine is expanding its reach in order to help others power their homes and businesses with solar energy.

Last year Greening Greater Racine laid the ground work to enable 18 homeowners in the city to participate in a money-saving ‘pool’ buy with a single contractor.

An advisory board selected the contractor whom it thought offered the best deal. The group purchase, according to Greening Greater Racine organizer Tom Rutkowski, meant about a 20% savings on each installation.

This year the group is trying to organize a group buy for all of Racine and Kenosha counties, using Plymouth-based contractor Arch Electric.

An informational meeting for anyone interested in learning more about solar energy will be held in Kenosha Thursday evening at Bradford Community Unitarian Church on 8th Ave. It’ll begin at 6:30.

Another session will be held Tuesday, May 30th in Racine at the Cesar Chavez Community Center on Douglas Ave.

For homeowners, solar panel systems pay for themselves after about seven years, according to Rutkowski.
