Storm System Batters Lake Michigan Shoreline

Apr. 30, 2020 3:40p

(WGTD)---High winds and waves overnight took their toll on at least one property---on the Lake Michigan shore---in the Carol Beach area of Pleasant Prairie.

According to Sandro Perez---the village’s Building Inspection Supervisor---a small ranch-style house on Lakeshore Drive between 100th and 102nd Street had to be evacuated, but it’s still on terra firma.

He told WGTD News, “Yes it’s unsafe. Yes there’s some erosion. And, yes we had to evacuate and shut the power down. But, from the pictures it doesn’t look like this house is going to fall into the Lake. Nowhere close to that.”

By Thursday morning, the lot was taped off. Overnight winds from the north gusted as high as 40 mph.

Perez said that a full inspection of the condition of the house would take place later in the day.
