(WGTD)---Police in Kenosha and Racine are investigating two gun-related homicides, a vehicular homicide and an officer involved shooting that's related to one of the gun deaths.
Kenosha Police report that a 33 year-old man was fatally shot inside Shenanigan's Tavern on 52nd St. at about 8:30 Sunday evening. Family members identified the victim as Antero Medina, whose nickname is "Casper."
The suspect, a 45 year-old man from Milwaukee, fled the scene but was cornered several blocks away. According to the release, the man opened fire on a responding police officer, striking the officer's squad car. The officer, along with a second officer, returned the fire, striking the suspect. He was taken to the hospital and is said to be in stable condition. No officers, according to the release, received significant physical injuries.
Within minutes of the Kenosha shootings, a 27 year-old man was fatally shot in Racine. He's been identified as Koreem Ozier, a former professional basketball player who graduated from Case High School in 2017 as the school's all-time leading scorer. Police said Ozier became involved in an altercation with an unknown male in the area of 12th St. and S. Memorial Dr. Ozier died at the hospital.
A complimentary Racine Journal Times story in 2017 praised Ozier for choosing a path in life that deviated from aspects of his tumultuous upbringing. Ozier's father was sentenced to life in prison for his role in a triple murder. A close cousin received a ten-year prison sentence for another shooting.
Overnight Saturday in Racine, a 26 year-old man was purportedly run over by his girlfriend and died several hours later at the hospital. The victim was identified as Darius Allen. The suspect--who's expected to be charged with Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle--was identified as 22 year-old Adasia Jones. The incident occurred in the 500 blk. of Hubbard St.
According to a news release, a verbal argument escalated into a physical confrontation that involved Allen jumping onto the hood of Jones' vehicle as she drove off. Allen fell; Jones allegedly returned and ran him over.
