Kenosha---Police have confirmed a WGTD News report that the decomposed body of a man found in a home near Eichelman Park Tuesday is that of the homeowner, 51 year-old Michael Gayan, a bit of a mysterious yet benevolent figure who spoke of having a wife and a girlfriend and who seemed to have a penchant for the high life.
Gayan's body was found by a construction crew that had been working in the area of 59th Pl. and 4th Ave. A foul odor led them to Gayan's home, a modest one-story structure that he apparently occupied only part-time, primarily during the summer months.
Although a possible cause of death hasn't been released, Gayan may have been shot several times, according to what police reportedly told next-door neighbor Susan Rondeau, who identified Gayan as her landlord.
Rondeau told WGTD News shortly after the body was discovered that she last saw Gayan around the Fourth of July. "He was a good landlord," Rondeau said. "He was the best I ever had. I'm pretty bummed that he's dead," she said.
Gayan was very responsive to any problems that cropped up at the home, and had recently hooked up a system that allowed Gayan, Rondeau and another tenant across the street to share WiFi, Rondeau said..
Gayan's personal life was a bit of a mystery. For example, the tenants were told to send rent checks to a woman that Gayan identified as his wife. Yet he also talked about living in Hawaii for a time with his girlfriend, and possibly moving there full time. He shunned casual questions about what he did for a living. And Gayan reportedly had another home in suburban Chicago.
According to posts on his Facebook page, the relationship with his girlfriend ended badly this past spring, with Gayan posting unflattering photos of the woman and displaying screen shots of lewd sexual text messages between the two.
According to court records, the Kenosha woman successfully sought a restraining order against Gayan about a year ago, but that was lifted at her request last November and the relationship resumed, at least until this past spring when the troubling social media posts began. Court documents indicated that the two had dated on-and-off for six years.
