Veterans Hospital Waiting Times: No Laughing Matter in Walworth County

Veterans and veterans advocates are speaking out against the V.A. Secretary’s remarks that long wait times at Veterans Administration hospitals should be compared to “waiting in line at Disney theme parks.”  The incoming Walworth County veterans service officer is among those disputing the analogy. Nate Bond says wait times for healthcare are no laughing matter. The 24-year Army vet takes the helm of the county veteran service office next month, and stresses that veterans should take advantage of healthcare benefits---and---every level of the system should have timely access. A new federal program to open up private healthcare options as part of veteran treatment is hoped to ease system examples of “hurry up and wait.” You can hear much more from Nate Bond about veterans’ issues and the importance of the Memorial Day weekend this Saturday at 11:15 a.m. when he is Jim McClure’s guest on “Community Matters.”
