Oct. 2 2019 7:38am

(WGTD) “Humans are the 21st Century version of oil,” says WGTD Digital Director Troy McDonald, who was one of the presenters at Gateway Technical College’s recent “Employee Learning Day” in-service.

Facebook, Google, and others are working hard to try to manipulate human behavior by extracting a tremendous amount of data from users of its free services and apps. The extent of their efforts—and just how the data is used—clearly stunned some members of the audience.

The presentation was video-recorded and is available below.

While online users are limited in how they can protect themselves, there are ways to figure out who’s using your data and determine what they’ve collected.

McDonald’s resume includes an associate degree in Marketing from Gateway and a bachelor’s degree in Emerging Media from UW-Stout. He’s currently a master’s degree student at Harvard University where is studying Government and International Relations.
