Wholesale Grocery in Kenosha Plans an Expansion

(WGTD)---A large food distribution warehouse in Kenosha is expanding.

According to city documents, Associated Wholesale Grocers wants to add 490,000 sq. ft. of space to its exiting 731,000 sq. ft warehouse north of 60th St. and east of Highway H. The addition, built in two phases, would eclipse the size of the 1.1 million sq. foot Amazon Fulfillment Center at I-94 and State Highway 142.

The $6.2 million project will be reviewed by the City Plan Commission next week.

The extra square footage would not lead to the hiring of additional employees, according to the company. The payroll currently stands at just over 400 workers.

Associated Wholesale Grocers, according to the company's website, is owned by the independent grocery stores its serves. The Kenosha facility is one of ten scattered across the Midwest, Plains States and The South.
