Wisconsin Unemployment: Good News and Bad News

There is GOOD news and BAD news about unemployment here in Wisconsin. First---the GOOD news. New data from the Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development shows unemployment dropped in 30 of the state’s 32 largest cities from June to July. Now the BAD news. Mount Pleasant and Racine were the only two cities that showed an increase. Racine had the highest unemployment rate of any city in the state at 7.2%---up from 6.9% in June. Unemployment rates also dropped in 71 of the state’s 72 counties. Racine County’s unemployment rate remained unchanged at 5.5% Dane County had the lowest unemployment rate in the state at 3%. Menominee County had the highest at 8.9%.
