Kenosha Retail Institution Closing; Building Up For Sale

WGTD)---A family-owned business that’s been in Kenosha for over a century is closing.

Jack Andrea’s fourth generation manager/owner Annie Goodman is leading a going-out-of-business sale at the 60th Street location that began Monday.

She says the decision to close the 110-year-old gift shop and cafe wasn’t easy, and was the result of a combination of factors, including family retirements and the birth of her first child.

And then there was the pandemic. "That made a tough decision tougher," she said. The small store was closed for much of the pandemic.

Goodman says she's grateful for the community's support over the years. "The Kenosha community buoyed us forever--allowed us to stay probably longer than a lot of small businesses were ever given the chance which is amazing," she said.

Now the building will be sold, but that doesn't necessarily mean that Jack Andrea's famous soda fountain will disappear.

The family hopes to sell the building to a new civic-minded owner who’d be interested in maintaining out of that space some type of service to the community. "We hope to see our legacy live on in Kenosha in some way. We're just not exactly sure how that's going to be yet," she said.
