(WGTD)---In addition to having to make a slew of short-term decisions because of the virus shutdown, school districts have launched some long-term visioning.
Speaking on WGTD’s Education Matters program Saturday, Kenosha Unified Superintendent Sue Savaglio-Jarvis says at the top of her list is finding a way to offer students guaranteed internet access in order to facilitate a greater degree of online learning.
New online learning strategies that were implemented on the fly over the past few weeks, for instance, have given rise to discussions about creating a new type of e-school that might be the answer for some students who struggle. There's also been talk of relying on online learning to keep students busy during snow days and inservice days. "Instead of having students stay home and do nothing, if you will, maybe on those professional learning days we can extend learning throughout that time period, again providing everyone has access to it," she said.
As the pandemic begins to wane, Savaglio-Jarvis says she want to sit down with local leaders to discuss those internet access issues.
