(WGTD)---A member of the board that oversees operations at Gateway Technical College has died.
According to a news release from the college, R. Scott Pierce, 78, passed away Thursday night. The cause of death was not disclosed.
Pierce served as the superintendent of Kenosha Unified from 2003 to 2007. He was district administrator for Westosha Central from 2008 to 2018.
Pierce was a Gateway trustee for 16 years, serving as board chair for several of those years.
Most recently, Pierce was serving on an ad hoc committee that was charged with helping to find Gateway's next president.
Interim Gateway President Morgan Phillips said: "In my time working alongside him, he showed passion for his work and desire for Gateway to be as successful as it possible could."
Gateway Board Chair Jason Tadlock, who also serves as district administrator for Elkhorn Area Schools, viewed Pierce as a mentor. "I looked to him for ideas and always appreciated the perspective he would bring whether it was as a superintendent or as a Gateway Board of Trustees member."
According to Gateway's release, Pierce earned his bachelor's degree in music education at Carthage College in 1971, his master's degree with an emphasis on educational administration from UW-Whitewater in 1989 and his doctorate in education from Carthage in 2001.
